Honorable Judge
JOHNSON
Judge Joseph D. Johnson was appointed to the bench in 2005 in the Third Judicial District, Shawnee County, Kansas. The Honorable Johnson is the first black judge on the Shawnee County Bench. He is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University (NC) and KU Law School. For 30 years he practiced law both as a public defender and privately.
The judge teaches at the National Criminal Defense College, the Trial Advocacy Institute and the Intensive Trial Advocacy Program. Memberships include the National and State Criminal Defense Lawyers, the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. He is married and has two adult children and two grandsons.
