A newspaper reporter once wrote that Brian Tannebaum is “the lawyer that lawyers go to when they find themselves in hot water.” A native Miamian now in his 22nd year of practice, Brian’s clients are either lawyers trying to remain lawyers, law students trying to become lawyers, law firms seeking ethics opinions and compliance with various rules, regulations and statutes, or individuals and corporations facing state or federal criminal charges. At Bast Amron, LLP, he serves as Special Counsel, Chairing the firm’s Ethics, Professional Responsibility and White Collar Defense Group.
He has been counsel in over 50 Florida Bar matters at The Florida Supreme Court level and represented law firms of 1 to over 300 lawyers. Brian is also the author of The Practice: Brutal Truths About Lawyers and Lawyering.
Brian’s criminal practice finds him defending misdemeanor and felony charges in state and federal courts, representing individuals and corporations in investigations and grand jury subpoenas. A former columnist for Above The Law, his professional ethics blog, mylawlicense.com was honored as one of the top 100 legal blogs by the ABA. Brian is “AV” rated by Martindale Hubbell, listed in Best Lawyers in America, 2016, 2017, and his 2014 book, The Practice: Brutal Truths About Lawyers and Lawyering, is a top 10 best-seller published by the American Bar Association. He is a frequent speaker on the topic of ethics and defending lawyers, having spoken to Bar Associations and national organizations throughout the United States.
Brian has served the Bar as President of the Florida Association of Bar Defense Lawyers, a Member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Attorney Admissions, Peer Review and Attorney Grievance for the United States District Court, President of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Member of the Executive Council of the Florida Bar Criminal Law Section, the Florida Bar Criminal Procedure Rules Committee, and as a Member and Vice-Chair of a Florida Bar Grievance Committee.
Brian is a graduate of Stetson University College of Law, and The University of South Florida, a native of Miami, and a Certified Sommelier.
